I have just finished a new piece for a Charity Fundraiser for the Kingston Children’s Aid Society. The piece will be silent auctioned at a Blues Night held at St. Lawrence College April 24th. I made a somewhat similar piece for the Sweet Adelines Fundraiser to take place in early June.

The Cancer Society in Kingston is also having an art show and silent auction at their offices on Day’s Road throughout the month of April. Stop by there to see “ Ribbons of Hope ” a stained glass panel and Journey of Hope , a Bargello Quilt by my sister Mary Waugh and I. We are also getting ready for the May 1 and May 2 Kingston Interconnected Studio Tour at our home and have added a couple of new pieces to Delvalle’s Art Corner in the loft in Vandervoort’s General Store on Princess Street.

“ That’s Why They Call It The Blues “ is a piece designed for Night in Blue 4, a charity blues night and silent auction to support The Children’s Aid Society in Kingston. The background of clear textured “ lava glass “ provided the inspiration for the flowing shape of the music. The outer border of “ Blue Baroque “ glass gives it a funky feel and the music is a simplified version of the title line of “ Elton John’s great song “ That’s Why They Call It the Blues “ It is approximately 12” by 21” .

Women’s Art Festival

Please stop by the park to see the many women artists. There is entertainment , food and fun. 20 percent of all sales are donated to local charities for women and families. Surfboard in Coral

Ron created this ” Surfboard in Coral ” while I was on a cruise snorkelling and looking at coral ( No surfing though) . He made the surfboard by doing a wire melt in the kiln. In this case he used 2500g of clear and bits of colour, melted through the wiremesh you see on the left into a ceramic mould the shape of the surfboard. The coral is a piece of manzanita root , sandblasted and then lacquered with a slot cut into it using the tip of the chainsaw. The surfboard can be removed from the coral. I am leaving on a quilting trip soon - can’t wait to see what he makes while I am away.

Maple Heart Quilt Block

The maple heart quilt block is made for the Canadian Comfort & Remembrance Project which makes quilts from this block design and gives them to families of military personel that have lost theirs lives in combat. Purple Whispy with bevels

This bevelled piece is 17″ square and has hooks to hang horizontally. We have it in the stand to take the picture, to see the true colour you must see it in person. The bevels create many rainbows as the sun shines through them each day.

Maple Bowl

A nice maple bowl that is ready for a good salad. It is 13″ by 5 1/2″ . The wood was from a log I purchase at a wood auction. Several family memebrs have some of the same log that I turned for them.

Oak Salad Bowl

This oak salad bowl is ready for a family dinner. It is 13″ by 5 3/4″. The local city was removing some trees and I was fortunate to get a couple of pieces.

Red Mallee Burl

This little fellow has travelled a great distance to get here. It comes to us from the forests of Australia. I purchased the burl from John at Woodchuckers in Weston Ontario. The colours a very nice and it has a great feel to it. The bowl is 3″ by 5″. With this wood you have to be careful due to the sharp pieces all along the outside, but inside you find this awesome red colour in the burl.

Ambrosia Maple Bowl

Ambrosia Maple, is maple that has been drawn on by a little bettle. It does create some very interesting art work, unfortunately when it has finished the tree usually dies. I got this piece north of Kingston. The bowl is 8 1/2″ by 3 and will grace any table. The art work is much better when seen in person.
