Maple Burl Bowl #3
This small bowl was made when a larger maple burl was cut into bowl blanks.
When Ron retired he decided that he was in need of a new challenge as well as a new tool – he bought a lathe! In learning to turn bowls, burls and other fine works, the house has occasionally been covered with shavings but he’s having fun and as you’ll see in this category, has been making some fine works of art.
This small bowl was made when a larger maple burl was cut into bowl blanks.
This simple shaped sugar maple bowl comes a tree that was once in our backyard. It grew too tall and had to be removed but it has provided blanks for many bowls.
This bowl was turned from a maple burl found in the Sharbot Lake area. It is approximately 8 inches high by 12 inches wide.
The maple burl bowl comes from a farm near Belleville. Burls are the growth you see on trees that look like a large bulb growing out of the tree. They are not all that common and can have a very beautiful grain pattern.
