When Ron retired he decided that he was in need of a new challenge as well as a new tool – he bought a lathe! This black walnut bowl measures 10 1/4″ by 4 1/4″. The wood was acquired at a wood auction in Kemptville last September. The white colouring is the sap wood.

The maple burl bowl comes from a farm near Belleville. Burls are the growth you see on trees that look like a large bulb growing out of the tree. They are not all that common and can have a very beautiful grain pattern.
